By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Feb. 14: The Gorkhapatra Corporation officials met the Chief Minister (CM) of State 5 Shankar Pokharel on Friday to discuss the corporation’s Kohalpur publication.

The meeting was held at the CM’s official residence in Butwal where he praised Gorkhapatra for expanding its services in the state.

“Gorkhapatra’s publications have made encouraging improvements,” he said. “We hope that the newspapers will prioritise materials that highlight the specialities of the state.”

CM Pokharel believed that Gorkhapatra and its publications would become the standard for truth just how it is currently the standard for language.

He also expressed his commitment to support Gorkhapatra’s Kohalpur publication in every way possible.

The corporation’s Executive Chairman Krishna Murari Bhandari, Consulting Editor Gopal Khanal, Editor-in-chief of Gorkhapatra Shree Om Shrestha, Editor-in-chief of The Rising Nepal Jagdish Pokhrel and State Coordinator Deepak Gyawali were present at the meeting.

Gorkhapatra and The Rising Nepal started their publication from Kohalpur, Banke from Thursday. However, the publication will formally begin from February 19.

Meanwhile, an interaction program was held on Friday at Butwal, on the occasion of publication of the papers from Kohalpur, Banke.

Addressing the program, Chairman Bhandari said, “We are actively working towards making Gorkhapatra as prompt as an axe’s edge.

Bhandari said that the corporation believed that the Kohalpur edition would help in expanding its markets.

Shiva Raj Subedi, Mayor, Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City said that Gorkhapatra should play a role in raising awareness and achieving prosperity.

Medias today do not follow the culture of investigative journalism. They overlook the activities of local governments and their impact on the society, he said.

“I would like to draw Gorkhapatra’s attention to these matters and ask it to address these shortcomings of Nepali media,” he added. “Gorkhapatra should reach all the rural corners of the country and should support the state’s development.”
