Khotang, March 28 : The 'Girl Child Savings Programme', initiated by Halesi Towachung municipality, is gradually gaining momentum.
As many as 129 girl children have so far collected savings since the programme initiated.
Women and Children Section Chief of the municipality, Eran Rai shared that enrollment of girl children to the savings programme has increased.
Under the programme, the municipality will deposit Rs 12, 000 in three years (Rs 4,000 annually) and the households will also add on the amount according to their capacity. Local mothers have expressed their belief that this programme would make the future of their daughters bright.
The municipality initiated the programme in an effort to bridge social discrimination, informed municipality's deputy mayor Bimala Rai.
