By Our Correspondent, Birgunj, Feb. 4: A new Statue of Ganesh Man Singh, who is also regarded as the father of democracy in Nepal, was unveiled at Birta Chowk of Birgunj Metropolitan City-4.
The new statue was erected after the statue constructed on January 21, 2000 was destroyed during the Madesh movement.
Former Deputy Prime Minister and former vice president of the Nepali Congress (NC) and Central chair of Ganeshman Singh Foundation Prakashman Singh unveiled the statute on Monday.
Speaking at the statue unveiling programme held in the chairmanship of Chakra Bahadur Shakya, former DPM Singh said, “The role played by iron man Ganeshman Singh to welcome democracy in Nepal will never be forgotten.”
Alleging that the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) government had kept democracy at risk, Singh said that corruption and irregularity had increased in the country.
Former minister and central committee member of NC Hridayaram Dhami, NC District President Sabuj Baniya, member of the central committee Ajaya Chaurasiya and former minister Surendra Chaudhary were present ion the occasion.
