Kathmandu, Dec 13: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has drawn attention towards the incident of mistreatment of journalists by police and election committee members during the 14th Nepali Congress General Convention.
During the Convention, journalists going to cover the news of the voting, which started three hours late today, were harassed by police and the election committee members, who also stopped them from collecting news. The FNJ has issued a statement today drawing serious attention to the incident of obstruction in news gathering.
"Such behavior and disruption in the gathering of news at a general convention of a responsible party like the Nepali Congress condemnable and violation of freedom of press," reads the statement, while demanding all sides concerned to respect press freedom by building an atmosphere for journalists to exercise their rights without any obstruction.
