Flood, landslide survivors in Manang provided special relief

Manang, Nov. 28: The flood and landslide survivors in Manang district have received special relief packages as pledged by the provincial government. The financial aid is for reconstruction of their disaster-damaged houses.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs at Gandaki Province distributed Rs 200,000 each to 74 households whose houses were completely rendered inhabitable in the landslide and flood, shared Chief District Officer (CDO) in Manang, Rabindra Prasad Acharya.

A total of Rs 10.4 million was released by the provincial government under the special relief package. According to CDO Acharya, the issue relating to providing relief packages to those who houses were partially damaged was yet to be tabled.

Minister for Economic Affairs Ramji Baral reached the disaster-hit places and handed over the relief packages on Sunday. He expressed his satisfaction, stating that the survivors received the relief package albeit little late.

Local tourism activities were hit hard following the flood in Marsyangdi River on May 28 and June 15. Immediately after the disaster, Chief Minister of Gandaki Province Krishnachandra Nepali Pokharel had announced special relief for the disaster victims.

Province Assembly member Chinta Bahadur Ghale said that they were looking out for the resources to compensate for the damages incurred to people and places in Manang due to natural disasters.
