By Premraj Simkhada, Kalikot, July 28: Five persons including four of a family have gone missing when flooding in the Gange Khola, a creek, at Bahalotama, Raskot Municiplaity-1 in Kalikot district, swept away a house at night on Monday.

Of the missing are Jaya Bahadur, 50, his daughters Sangeeta, 15, and Kaushi, 12, son Nabin, 8, and his close relatives Ashmita Shahi, 15, of Raskot Municipality-1. 

The flooding occurred when the family members and relatives of Jaya Bahadur in the house were fast asleep.

The land where Jaya Bahdur Shahi's house was built on has been turned into a riverbank strewn with boulders and pebbles.

As the house has been turned into a riverbank due to the flooding, chances of recovering the dead bodies are very low, said the Area Police Office.

The tragic incident has left the locals speechless as the flooding in the Gangekhola was out of imagination.

 “The search for the missing is going on", said Yakshya Raj Joshi, information officer and inspector at the Kalikot District Police Office.

An area of about 50 meter was flooded by the dry brook.

Mimsara Bom Shahi, deputy chief of Raskot municipality, who reached the incident site after knowing about the disaster also viewed that the chances of recovering the bodies were very low.

The evacuation of people in the area of high risk zone and searching of the missing is continuous, she added. As many as 15 houses are at high risk in the area near the Gange Khola, known as dry stream.

Meanwhile, a person has been killed in the flooding in the Tushara stream at the ward-1 of the same municipality. Belpura Shahi, 14, who was visiting Tek Bahadur Tamata's house at the time, was killed as the house collapsed due to the flooding.

Tek Bahadur Tamata, his wife Mayasara and daughter Yashoda Tamata were badly injured in the calamity.
