Chitwan, Oct 7: The first-ever Tharu Research Center has been established at Bachhauli of Ratnanagar municipality-6 in the district.
Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) former president Jiba Lamichhane inaugurated it amidst a programme here on Sunday.
The center is set up as a part of the Tharu Cultural Museum.
On the occasion, the NRNA former president expressed his hope that research about the Tharu culture and life history would be easier with the establishment of the center.
Lamichhane was honoured on the occasion.
The Khemlal and Harikala Lamichhane Trust had assisted Rs 1.23 million to construct the center's building.
As said by Museum chair Birendra Mahato, lawmakers Surendra Pandey and Rukmani Chaudhary contributed Rs. one million under the electoral constituency infrastructure development programme to the project and the then Bachhauli VDC wards 5, 6, and 7 had provided Rs 400 thousand.
Rs 500 thousand was managed through internal sources and two French students donated Rs 200 thousand to establish the center.
There were other several organisations that have financially assisted the project.
The Museum was established in 2063 BS.
