Kathmandu Dec. 28: A day-long food, music and cultural festival, hosted by the ward-7 of Kathmandu, celebrated the rich and delightful flavours of the Newari cuisines, culture and music of Ancient Asan.
The festival is dedicated to exploring age-old tradition, culture and cuisine of Newari community residing at Asan. The visitors in the festival got to sample some glorious authentic Newari food.
Visitors have also got a chance to taste the flavours of Newari delicacies like momo, yomari, bara, choila, kachila, safumicha, and chohi.
Along with the mouthwatering food, people had also got a chance to learn about Newari literature, Ranjana script, ancient dance, music and culture.
The food and the ambience together recreated a version of ancient Newari culture right in Asan chowk, a bastion of Newari culture and tradition of Kathmandu.
The ward office in the coordination with the Asan Sewa Samaj organised a day-long festival, aiming to promote authentic cuisine and culture of ancient Asan.
Inaugurating the fair, Mayor Bidhya Sundar Shakya said the city office would support the community to preserve and promote tangible heritages like the temples, bahals, chowks, music and dances.
“The uniqueness of Kathmandu is its originality. The city office is not in a favour of destroying ancient culture in a name of urbanization” said Shakya.
He asked all the community to get support the KMC in its drive to promote and preserve ancient culture of Kathmandu.
Ramesh Maharjan, coordinator of Nepal Sambat Nhud Rastriya Samaroha Samiti said, “If we can preserve our originality, we can save our identity. Preserving identity is must for the promotion of tourism.
Naresh Maharjan, member of ward office said along with the infrastructure development, the ward office has equally given priority to culture and heritage preservation work.
During the fair, Nepal Lipi Guthu has initiated a campaign called Ranjana Calligraph, to promote Ranjana script.
