By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Feb. 12: Finding a public toilet in Kathmandu can often prove to be a tough challenge for denizens. However, answering the nature’s call when you are out in and around Baneshwor is no more difficult. Now the wayfarers can easily access the public toilet near New Baneshwor.
In view of the rising population in and around the Baneshwor area, the Everest Bank in coordination with the Ward Office has built a toilet near the Chakkupakku Park, New Baneshwor.
The toilet was built focusing on the public conveniences, where the people can easily access the toilet to relives themselves, said Ward Chair Ram Kumar K.C.
The bank handed over the newly constructed public toilet to the Ward Office amidst a function on Wednesday.
The toilet can be used by eight persons at a time, including a disabled person, said the Ward Office.
According to Everest Bank, Rs. 2 million was invested for the construction of the toilet and maintenance of the Chakkupakku Park. The toilet was constructed under the corporate social responsibility of the bank.
Ward Chair K.C. said the senior citizens and disabled people would be given special priority. They can use the toilet free of cost, he added.
“Since there was no public toilet near the International Convention Centre, New Baneshwor, this used to bother us a lot. But the bank has solved this problem. Now we will operate the toilet in a proper way,” K.C. said.
The office has planned to install bio-gas plant at the toilet, said K.C. adding that proper drainage facility had been a big challenge for the city and installing the bio-gas plant at a public toilet was a good way to manage human waste.
The office would do its best to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the toilet, he added. “The money collected from the toilet will be used for maintaining cleanliness and installing the bio-gas plant,” he said.
