Karnali, March 20: A consultative meeting on the strategic action plan on early warning system in Karnali province was held in Birendranagar of Surkhet on Friday. The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law with support of Practical Action and Nepal Red Cross Society.
At the meeting, the Ministry Under-Secretary Birendra KC made a presentation on the acts and regulations relating to disaster in the province. He also shared that the Emergency Operation Centres have been established in all the 10 districts of the province.
On the occasion, former Director General of Department of Hydrology and Meteorology Dr Keshav Sharma said disaster mitigation work has been hampered by lack of integrated and province-level data.
UNDP Nepal's Rafique Siddique said the IT officers appointed in every municipality should be better utilized for data collection and analysis.
Various stakeholders on the occasion stressed on the need for effective enforcement of the disaster mitigation and early warning system strategic plan in the province and local level.
