Nawalparasi, July 16: Over a dozen of villages in Madhyabindu Municipality-3 here are in high risk of inundation with increasing soil erosion by the flooded Narayani River.
A local Yogman Chaudhary said that more than five kattha of lands he owned was eroded by the River in this rainy season. Ward Chair Amar Mahato shared that over 100 bigha of land was damaged by the river with inundation and erosion, displacing hundreds of locals.
Ratapur, Sehari, Sitapur, Bhiuran, Tamaspur, Baruwa, Bhadara among other villages are at high risk of inundation and continuous erosion by the river.
The river current has diverted to Nawalpur from Chitwan sides and has cut the lands in these areas. The river has diverted to about three kilometer towards Nawalpur side of late.
Meanwhile, Gandaki State Assembly members Roshan Bahadur Gaha and Janak Lal Shrestha led a team and recently inspected the site. The team reported to the State and federal governments, seeking support to construct embankment to minimize the risk.
