Damak, Oct 21: The dengue epidemic that had spread three months ago in Jhapa district is yet to come under control.
The dengue has spread towards rural areas from the urban areas. According to dengue focal person of Health Office Jhapa, Jiban Chaulagain, more than 600 cases of dengue has been recorded in the district.
It has been estimated that the number of dengue patients has crossed more than 1000 though the record from the local level has not been collected, said Chaulagain.
This year has recorded highest cases of dengue in Jhapa.
The health office has not conducted any programme for controlling dengue disease as the task of conducting awareness campaigns has now fallen on the shoulder of local levels, said Chaulagain.
Damak, Birtamod and Mechinagar municipalities are found with higher number of dengue cases.
According to Dr. Khusbu Priya of Lifeline Hospital in Damak, two to three dengue patients visit the hospital on a daily basis.
Most of the patients are asked to take rest and to consume plenty of fluids. The hospital has admitted only the patients having dengue related complications, said Priya.
