Beni, Oct. 23: The number of patients suffering from dengue, caused by mosquito bites, has been on the rise in Myagdi district.
According to Beni Hospital, a day earlier only two patients were diagnosed with dengue but the number of dengue infections reached 44 as of Friday.
Information officer at the hospital Prakash Subedi said, “A day earlier, an eight-year-old boy of Jaljala Rural Municipality-3, Parbat, and 46-year-old man of Beni Municipality-4 were found to have been infected with dengue.”
Later, dengue was seen in 44 blood samples of the patients who had visited the hospital for health checkups.
Subedi informed that cases of dengue were being reported mostly in five of the six local levels of Myagdi and Jaljala Rural Municipality of neighbouring Parbat district.
Ek Narayan Lamsal, chief of the District Health Office, Myagdi, said that a massive surge in cases of dengue lately had posed a huge challenge to the district’s health sector.
If the number of patients continues to increase at the same pace, then we will have to run a campaign to destroy all the mosquitoes transmitting dengue.
