Kathmandu, June 26: After a long confusion about organising two traditional chariot processions of Patan due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the process to construct the chariots of Red Machhindranath and Minnath has begun from Wednesday.
The Red Machhindranath and Minnath chariots are being constructed at Pulchowk and at Tangal respectively.
The construction of both the chariots will complete before the beginning of the chariot pulling festival, said Rajan Bhuju, chief of Lalitpur Guthi Sansthan.
An interesting thing about the 50-feet tall towers of Red Machhindranath and Minnath chariot is that the wooden frames have to be made without using any iron nail.
Members of different communities are actively involved in the construction of the famous chariots.
The people of the Bashi community involve in the selection and cutting down of the trees for logs required to make the chariot. Barahi community people involve in preparing the logs while Yewal community is involved to construct the chariot, tie the cane pieces with one another and make hooks and knots.
