Chandragiri, Feb 6: The Chandragiri municipality has decided to clean up the highway that falls under its scope every week. The highway is the main transit point of entry to Kathmandu valley.
Accordingly, the municipality has allocated Rs. 2 million for road cleaning and sanitation," said Mayor Ghanashyam Giri. Likewise, the municipality will put up dividers on the highway and colour it for beautification and traffic support. It has allocated another Rs. 5 million for the same.
More than 100,000 vehicles enter and leave Kathmandu valley via the Thankot transit in Chandragiri. Earlier, the municipality had installed street lights on the Piplamod-Naagdhunga-Kalanki road section.
The plan is to install 500 street lamps currently, with another 200 to be added in future, Mayor Giri said. It has also installed 68 CCTV cameras in the highway area to help check crimes. It cost Rs. 10 million for the same.
Chandragiri is the largest municipality of Bagmati province, with 11 of the 15 wards falling in the highway area. This also includes the first ever tunnel-way of the country, currently under-construction linking Naagdhunga to Naubise in the municipality.
