By Our Correspondent, Bajura, Mar. 11: Dhirendra Bahadur Singh of Rila, Badimalika Municipality – 4 has started farming bananas in his barren land lying beside the Sanphe Martadi Road.
“The empty land used to face landslides and block the road every monsoon,” Singh said, adding, “By planting bananas, the land will be utilised and the landslides will also be controlled.”
Singh started planting bananas in the land from last year and now, other farmers are also gradually picking it up. This has not only provided the farmers an additional source of income but has also beautified the road, as stated by the Agriculture Knowledge Centre (AKC), Bajura.
To encourage the practice and promote its expansion, AKC has started distributing sugarcane and banana seeds to the farmers of Budhiganga and Badimalika municipalities to plant on either side of the 42-kilometre road, according to Min Prasad Joshi, Information Officer of the AKC.
