By Prakash Chandra Bhattarai, Damauli, Jan. 31: Agamkumari Upadhyay, 98, becomes the first person in Devghat Rural Municipality to receive the vaccine against COVID-19.

A long-time resident of the old age home under Devghat Area Development Committee, Upadhyay took the first jab starting off the vaccination programme in the Rural Municipality, as per Health Section chief of the rural municipality Pradeep Kumar Budhathoki.

Majority of the elderly living in the old age home are aged over 80 years. “Given their susceptibility to the pandemic, they were given the first priority here in Devghat,” said Budhathoki.

On Sunday, 34 senior citizens and 13 staffers of the old age home received the vaccination. Likewise, on the same day, 50 female health personnel, three sanitation workers, three police officials, and one ambulance driver were vaccinated.
