By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Dec. 30: Electricity consumption skyrocketed on Wednesday with the sharp increase in the cold owing to changes in the weather since Tuesday. According to the data of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), electricity consumption on the day reached 1,699 megawatts.
Suresh Bahadur Bhattarai, NEA spokesperson, predicted that the electricity consumption could have reached 1,750 megawatts on the day if there was a more effective distribution of electricity in place.
He said many places witnessed electricity cut due to old infrastructure causing hindrances to the effective supply of electricity.
He said electricity supply on the day fell short of demand as NEA supply system could support the demand as evidenced by breakage of the transformer, fire in the supply wire. He added that the NEA was working to upgrade the supply system with the initiation of a strategy to increase domestic electricity consumption.
