Kathmandu, Mar.9: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has said that women should create a space to be at forefront in all sectors.
Speaking at an International Women’s Day Roundtable on ‘Political participation of Women: Challenges and the way forward’ here on Tuesday, she said that equal participation of women is mandatory for overall development.
“Ensuring better health, security and peace is necessary for every woman for their peaceful existence,” said Deuba, adding, “If more women participate in politics, peace will prevail worldwide.”
Women should be involved in economic, political and environmental issues to ensure gender equality for sustainable development, she added.
Women need to be committed to be part of politics to bring about changes.
On the occasion, Renu Kumari Yadav, Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, said that qualitative participation of women in politics was the need of time.
Competitive women should participate in politics for sustainable participation, she added. During the roundtable, veteran women leaders, including Pushpa Bhusal, whip of Nepali Congress, and Astalaxmi Shakya, vice-chair of CPN-UML, opined that participation of women in politics was essential for the sustainable gender equality practices.
