Ratnanagar, April 19 : Banana plantation in the eastern part of Chitwan district was damaged by the windstorm on Saturday evening, incurring damages worth over Rs 10 million.
The gale that started in the evening damaged banana planted in Ratnanagar, Kalika, Rapti municipality and Piple in the district which are the the pocket area for banana farming. Farmers said the heavy storm also broke the damaged banana trees cultivated in the western Chitwan. Many farmers were worried about how they could pay the bank loan obtained for banana farming.
Former president of Banana Farmers’ Association Bishnu Hari Panta shared that exact detail of the damage was awaited as they were collecting and compiling the data. Banana farmer and entrepreneur Baburam Bhatta said due to the lockdown, the farmers themselves could not go to the field and inspect the banana plantation for themselves to collect the details on the damages.
