Kathmandu, Dec. 31: The Department of Metrology and Hydrology (DHM) has predicted partly cloudy weather throughout the country on Friday. Currently, the country is under the influence of western disturbance but it will be getting weaker from Friday morning.
According to senior meteorologist Sameer Shrestha at the DHM, there is a chance of light snowfall at one or two places of the eastern and central high mountainous regions. The country is under the influence of the western low-pressure system and the low-pressure area around the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar of India, but it is gradually going towards the east, the DHM said.
There is no chance of rainfall in the Kathmandu Valley but the temparature will drop to 5 to 7 degree Celsius on Friday, Shrestha said. The rainfall since Tuesday has increased the cold across the country, he added.
On Thursday, the lowest temperature was recorded in Jomsom at -3.0 degree Celsius followed by Jumla at -0.4 degree Celsius. The lowest temperature of Kathmandu was 6 degree Celsius and the maximum was 13.5 degree Celsius.
There will be partial cloud cover across the country and light snowfall is expected at one or two places in the high hilly and mountainous areas of Gandaki and Province No. 1 on Friday.
Partial to normal cloud cover in Province No. 1, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province and partial cloud cover in the rest of the land is expected on Friday night. There is a possibility of light snowfall in one or two places of the high hilly and mountainous terrain of Province No. 1, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province.
Similarly, there will be partial cloud cover across the country on Saturday and the possibility of light snowfall in one or two places of the high hilly and mountainous terrain of Gandaki and Karnali.
Bhirahawa, Pokhara and Okhaldhunag received more than 15mm rain on Thursday.
Meanwhile, flights at both the airports in Solukhumbu have been suspended for two days due to heavy snowfall since Tuesday night.
