Sarlahi, Dec. 5: The government has begun the task of collecting voters’ name in various districts of the country from Friday. Eight local bodies in Sarlahi and 12 in Sunsari also began the task of collecting eligible voters' name from the same day.
Five municipalities including Lalbandi, Bagmati, Haripur, Ishworpur and Haripurwa and three rural-municipalities Brahmapuri, Parsa and Chandranagar had begun name collection under nation-wide voter name collection campaign from Friday.
Diwakar Bhujel, Chief of District Election Commission, said that they will continue the work till December 17 in the first phase. “Nine other local bodies will collect voters' name in the second phase from December 19 to January 2 next year,” he added.
District Election Commission is conducting name collection camps in various places associating with the local bodies there. Bhujel said they already allotted a Registration Officer from the Election Office in the district with camera and laptop with them for the task in each of the local bodies.
“We sent the focal persons and local bodies will manage other requirements,” Bhujel added. The constitutional provision allows all Nepali citizens who crossed 16 years and have acquired citizenship to be registered in voters list at their own places.
Similarly in Sunsari, twelve local bodies have also initiated voters' registration camp from the same day. The camp will continue for next fifteen days.
Dwarikalal Chaudhary, Mayor of Itahari Sub-metropolitan City, said that the local body will collect voters' names for the upcoming election at their place. “Different people will collect names from various wards of the sub-metropolitan city till December 2,” he added.
According to him, prospective voters have to bring their original citizenship with them when they visit their nearby camps to register their names in the list. “We have coordinated with political parties, people’s representatives and leaders of civil society so that we can cover the maximum eligible names in the list,” he added.
