Kathmandu, July 27: After the universities, including Tribhuvan University (TU) and Purbanchal University (PU), decided to conduct its stalled examinations from August 23, the student organisations affiliated to different political parties have opposed the decision terming it unscientific and impractical.
The student wings condemned the decision for taking it by completely ignoring the problems being faced by the students.
All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union (ANNISU), the student wing affiliated to the ruling Nepal Communist Party, said it was not possible to conduct the examination from August 23 because public transportation services on the long route come into operation only from August 15.
Issuing a press statement, the ANNISU stated that it was very difficult to arrive in the examination centers from their hometown in seven days.
Similarly, in a statement, Nepal Student Union president Rajiv Dhungana asked the universities to conduct academic activities only after the situation becomes normal and conducting examinations from August 23 would be impractical.
Likewise, Socialist Student Union also condemned the decision. Issuing a separate press statement, the Union said the students might face trouble from the landlords in Kathmandu. “Many students who come to Kathmandu to take the exam may end up in 14-day quarantine,” it said.
The unions asked the universities to withdraw the decision as life is greater than examinations. However, the varsities have not commented on the demands of the students.
