Kathmandu, June 6: Nepal recorded more recoveries than new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday. The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) recorded 3,450 new cases of COVID-19 and 8,243 recoveries in the past 24 hours. With this, national tally of the pandemic has reached 585,100 and recovery tally 484,373. Similarly, the ministry added 68 more COVID-19-related fatalities in its update. With this, the nation’s COVID-19 death toll has climbed to 7,799, with death rate standing at 1.6 per cent.
According to the MoHP, 16,814 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, of which 11,471 were RT-PCR tests and 5,343 antigen tests. A total of 1,502 antigen tests came out positive in the last 24 hours. The Kathmandu Valley recorded 937 new infections in the past 24 hours.
Of them, 723 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 141 in Lalitpur and 73 in Bhaktapur. According to the MoHP, the country now has 92,928 active cases of COVID-19. Of them, 6,660 patients are admitted to various institutional isolations and 86,268 are placed in home isolation.
Of the active patients, 1,451 are admitted to the ICU and 384 are receiving treatment with ventilator support. Likewise, 730 people, mostly those who had returned from abroad, are placed in quarantine.
Meanwhile, the government is administering the first shot of Vero Cell vaccine against the COVID-19 to the citizen aged between 60 and 64 years from Tuesday.
According to the MoHP, all Nepali citizens falling in that age group will get the first dose of the vaccine, which was provided by the government of China as grant assistance.
The MoHP said that one should show his/her citizenship certificate or any other document issued by the government that clearly identifies the name, age and address of the person.
It added that if the targeted people have no such document, they can visit the Ward office and get a letter of recommendation. 
Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is establishing vaccination centres in every ward of the metropolis for the next round of COVID-19 vaccination drive on the recommendation of the MoHP.
