By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Jan. 28: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said Tuesday that it was vital to move forward by focusing on good governance and development.

Congratulating the newly elected House of Representatives (HoR) Speaker, Agni Sapkota, PM Oli said, “Many Acts are to be made by passing various bills by HoR.”

“Projects like Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), which has already got approval from the government during the premiership of different party leaders in the last 6/7 years, has now come to the point wherein it is to be passed by the House,” the PM said.

The PM said that even though perspectives of different political parties clashed at times, it was important for all of them to unite when it comes to fundamental issues.

He said, “As we have chosen multi-party democratic system of government, clash of thoughts and ideologies amongst the parties is natural, but all of us shall unite when it comes to fundamental issues.”

“The task of operating the parliament and facilitating the duties of the members of parliament is on your shoulder,” Oli said to Speaker Sapkota. “I extend my best wishes to you.”

Expressing his contentment on unanimous election of Agni Sapkota as the Speaker of HoR, PM Oli said, “There were no criticisms during nomination and election of Speaker. The parliament should move forward in the upcoming days with the same approach.”

“I believe that Sapkota would be successful in protecting, enforcing and regulating the constitution and in ensuring the dignity of the parliament,” said PM Oli.

He further said that he would extend his full support to the speaker, if need be.

The PM stressed on moving the democratic system of government forward through understanding of all the political parties.

“The nature of our society is the same. Despite of all the disagreements, we reach to an understanding at the end of the day,” he said.

The armed conflict came to an end in 2007 because of the agreement, he added.

“If we look into the past, we have been successful in ensuring democracy through agreement,” PM Oli said. “We have been unsuccessful whenever we disagreed.”

The PM said, “Had we not been united, Nepal would not have got the new constitution. The elections held were successful due to our unity.”

He said that it was vital for everyone to unite in order to increase the pace of development, science, technology and communication.

The PM appealed to everyone to catch up with the world's pace of development. “The government is committed to enforcing the constitution and laws which came into life through years of struggle.”

“Even though there was delay in election of Speaker, we shouldn’t delay any of the tasks now, every work shall be done in a timely manner,” The PM said.
