Morang, May 1: Since the Nepali New Year marked on April 13, a total of 11 individuals, including four underage boys, have been arrested across the country on charge of raping eight underage girls.
The reports were recorded from 13-29 April.
In the night of April 13, four individuals were arrested for raping a 17-year-old girl in Kailali.
They were identified as Naresh Nepali, 20; Arjun Sawad, 21; Nirmal Chaudhary, 20; and Naresh Bhatta, 24, of Gauriganga Municipality-4.
They raped her while she was returning home from her relatives’ house with three others.
Three girls, who were with the victim, were threatened with sharp weapons and even beaten up by the three alleged rapists who had reached there on a motorcycle. The victim was then taken around 100 metres away and was gruesomely raped.
As soon as the police were informed about the incident, a team of Area Police Office, Chaumala, arrested the four individuals along with the weapons and the motorcycle.
Two days later, in the morning of April 15, a 37-year-old man from Ward 1 of Sainamaina Municipality in Rupandehi was arrested on charge of raping a 15-year-old. He was identified as Man Bahadur Magar.
According to police, Magar had called the victim to his house by luring her and committed the heinous crime. Later on a team from the Area Police Office, Ranyaura, arrested him.
On the same evening, a 19-year-old Ram Jeevan Yadav of Rajgadh Gaunpalika-2 in Saptari was arrested for raping a 14-year-old girl.
Yadav had called the victim outside her house through a phone call and raped her. A team from Police Station, Jhutaki arrested Yadav after being notified of the incident.
Likewise, on April 17, Area Police Office, Baniyavar arrested 15-year-old Muskan Tharu from Bardiya Municipality-1 in Bardiya for raping a four-year-old girl.
Similarly, on the same day 60-year-old Krishna Pandit, a local of Likhu Gaunpalika-4 in Nuwakot district, was arrested on charge of allegedly raping a six-year-old girl.
According to local police, Pandit had raped the minor by luring her.
As a shocking note, on April 25, a 23-year-old individual of Sindhupalchowk currently living at Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-9 was arrested on charge of raping his 14-year-old sister.
Following a complaint, the Metropolitan Police Range, Bhaktapur arrested the man on the alleged charge.
A couple of days ago on the night of April 28, Police Station, Ramailo, arrested 14-year-old boy of Kanepokhari Gaunpalika-3 in Morang, under charges of raping a 14-year-old girl.
As per the police, the boy raped the victim taking her to a maize field.
Meanwhile, Area Police Office, Surunga, arrested 16-year-old Nischal Rai on the night of April 29 for raping a five-year-old girl.
Rai, who lives in Kankai Municipality-7, raped the victim by luring and taking her to a room where feed for chickens was stored in a nearby chicken farm.
“Police are investigating into every case. The legal procedures are being followed and the cases will proceed further as per the prevailing laws,” said Deputy Inspector General of Police Niraj Bahadur Shahi, spokesperson for Nepal Police.
As per the Criminal Code, a rape convict is sent for 16 to 20 years of jail if the victim is less than 10 years old. Similarly, 14 to 16 years of jail term is allotted if the victim is 10 to 14 years old, 12 to 14 years of jail term if the victim is 14 to 16 years old and 10 to 12 years of jail sentence if the victim is 16 to 18 years old.
With family members, relatives and acquaintances involved in many rape cases, police said that children should be kept under proper care and surveillance.
