Kathmandu, Apr. 15: Students preparing for the final examinations of school level as well as higher education examination are in worries as their examinations have become uncertain due to the fear of coronavirus and prolonged lockdown.
Sagun Thapa, a tenth grader in Chitwan was preparing for the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) with a target to secure A+ grade. However, his dream has become uncertain after the government postponed SEE examination a day before the examination was to begin.
Now, Thapa worries that he may not be able to keep in memory for long what he learnt by targeting the examination.
Pretam Pradhan, who was preparing for grade twelve examinations in Kathmandu, has a plan to go abroad for higher education after passing grade 12. Now, Pradhan is in tension that if the examination is not conducted soon, he will miss the academic session overseas and lose a year.
Pradhan wants the examinations be held soon. “If the government wants, it can conduct the examination by maintaining social distance,” Pradhan said, forgetting the fact that going overseas for higher study is not easy now due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sumitra Chhetri, an engineering student of Purbanchal University (PU), was

preparing for the third semester examination of civil engineering till it was postponed for an uncertain time.
She said exam postponement would lead to a loss of time and money.
Though the students preparing for examinations are in worries about their valuable time and preparations, the government could not offer any certain strategy about withheld examinations of millions of students across the country.
Chandra Mani Poudel, chairperson of the National Examination Board (NEB), said they could not say anything about the examination till the current situation returns to normalcy. The NEB could not conduct examination by keeping students at risk because health is the first priority for everyone.
Regarding some stakeholders’ demands to distribute certificates to students on the basis of internal assessment, Poudel said that distributing certificates was not possible because the document offered without taking examinations would not get validity in the global market.
Poudel said, “There is no alternative to examination for the validity of students’ knowledge.” Poudel asked the examinees to keep on learning.
