Kathmandu, Dec. 18: The main opposition CPN-UML has assigned responsibilities for the office bearers and leaders after a new working committee was elected from the 10th National Congress.
The UML has issued an inter-party directive appointing heads of various departments as well as provincial and district in-charges. The directive was issued announcing the decisions of the full meeting of the 2nd Central Committee of UML held on December 11 and 12 in Bhaktapur.
According to the directive, party chairman KP Sharma Oli is leading the party overall, senior vice-chairman Ishwar Pokhrel has been given a responsibility of the Policy Research Institute in-charge.
Similarly, the party’s third-ranked vice-chairman Yubaraj Gyawali has been given the responsibility of coordinating the provincial and local units and another vice-chairman Asta Laxmi Shakya has been given responsibility of coordinating the political affairs.
Another vice-chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ has been given the charge of diplomatic relations and national security, while party general secretary Shankar Pokharel has been given the responsibility of coordinating the organisational work, vice-chairman Bishnu Poudel has been given the responsibility of monitoring the organisational work.
Likewise, vice-chairmen Subas Nembang and Surendra Pandey have been given the responsibility of coordinating parliamentary affairs and state affairs respectively.
In the same way, party deputy-general secretaries Pradeep Kumar Gyawali and Prithvi Subba Gurung have been made the head of the party school department and publicity and publication department respectively.
Similarly, deputy-general secretary Bishnu Rimal has been appointed as heads of the election department and financial and fund management.
Standing committee member Ghanshyam Bhusal has been made the head of the finance and planning department.
Likewise, party secretaries Top Bahadur Rayamajhi has been appointed as head of the physical infrastructure and transport management, Lekhraj Bhatta has been given charge of Sudurpaschim Province in-charge, Gokarna Bista has been given the charge of energy, water resource and irrigation department and Yogesh Bhattarai as head of health and population department.
Standing committee member Mani Thapa has been given the charge of the land management department.
Party chairman Oli has given the major roles to his close confidants. He has also given important responsibilities to the former leaders of CPN (Maoist Centre) who decided to join CPN-UML following the split of Nepal Communist Party (NCP).
He however has not given a major responsibility to the leader who once backed Madhav Kumar Nepal prior to the split in UML.
Similarly, CPN-UML is going to conduct a party joining campaign. The party has decided to launch the campaign with an aim to develop as a common party of progressive and leftist forces, the directives added.
The UML has also claimed that the party will get a majority in the upcoming three-tier elections due to its policies and decisions taken after the 10th general convention and due to the party joining campaign.
