Damak, Aug. 9: A team from the Armed Police Force arrested two women with 44.3 gram brown sugar on Saturday. The duo had hidden the drugs inside their genitals.
According to the District Police Office, Jhapa, the Armed Police Force (APF) had checked the duo along the Nepal-India border while they were entering Nepal via Ward 4 of Gauriganj Rural Municipality.
The duo has been identified as 35-year-old Manju Dhimal and 25-year-old Bimala Dhimal. Both are residents of Damak.
“The APF requested women health workers from a nearby health centre and conducted the check as they suspected their activities. During the checking, brown sugar was found hidden inside their genitals,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rakesh Thapa.
The duo was later handed over to the Area Police Office, Gauriganj. The police are now conducting further investigation into the case. An investigation officer informed that the duo had hidden the brown sugar inside the genitals believing authorities wouldn’t check there.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and tightened border security, cross-border drug smuggling has not declined.
DSP Thapa further informed that they had arrested two other youths with brown sugar also on Saturday from Hatimara area of Bhadrapur Municipality in Jhapa. They were arrested with 21.260 gram brown sugar while entering Nepal via India.
The duo has been identified as Khemraj Kunwar, 24, a local; and Shrawan Ray, 28, an Indian national. Police also seized pharmaceutical drugs from them.
A week ago, the Damak Area Police Office had arrested 37-year-old Krishna Kumar Tajpuriya with 30 gram brown sugar from Gauradaha.
“Smugglers are active despite the pandemic and restriction orders. We are also increasing security to bust the rackets,” said DSP Thapa, who is also spokesperson for Jhapa District Police.
