Kathmandu, Mar. 29: Tabeen Raj Baskota, a 22-year-old student, has published a handbook in English ‘Write Well’ aiming to provide a guide for secondary students to improve their writing skills.
“This is the first time that a young graduate student has published a handbook like this in context of Nepal,” claimed Baskota, a BBA graduate of Kathmandu College of Management.
Baskota, who is currently eyeing to pursue a Master’s degree, is a voracious reader. He even claims to have devoured over 300 books last year alone. “I try yo read hundreds of books in 12 months. Reading has immensely helped me improve my writing. It has given me enough confidence to write a book, a guide book so to speak. The book is my attempt towards helping other students become better writers,” he explained.
The young management student’s recent handbook aims to fill the gap in current curriculum that neither focuses on improving writing nor encourages reading. According to Baskota, students in the lower secondary and secondary levels don’t possess sound English language skills. “The writing isn’t consistent. The ideas are under developed and the questions are ineffectively addressed,” he said.
Although, such handbooks are required from an early age, the author claims that it can be applied in Nepal’s education curriculum from sixth grade onwards.
Baskota, who has been teaching Information Technology and Art of writing at the Kavya School in Naya Baneshwor, believes that the book will also be helpful for IELTS and SAT preparations for students opting to study abroad.
