Lahan, Jan. 5: Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokhrel has urged everyone to start preparing for the elections, stating that it is the only way to protect democracy and the Constitution.
Addressing a district-level gathering of cadres organised by the Siraha chapter of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Pokhrel, who is also a member of the party’s secretariat, stated that the government had to dissolve parliament and call fresh elections after leaders of the ruling party themselves tried to make both the government and the party a failure.
Calling it unfortunate that the NCP government toppled in three years despite the people electing it to lead for five years, Deputy Prime Minister Pokhrel nevertheless clarified that there were still two bases to preserve the NCP’s unity.
“Unity is still possible if the accusations presented against Prime Minister Oli at the party secretariat on November 13 are withdrawn and everyone agrees to go to the polls on the scheduled dates,” Pokhrel said.
Minister for Urban Development and NCP central member Prabhu Sah clarified that he had sided with the truth over lies. “The country is at a critical juncture,” he said, adding, “I request everyone to stand for the truth.”
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Lila Nath Shrestha claimed that the House of Representatives could not be reinstated because it had been dissolved using the constitution-given rights.
Member of the NCP Standing Committee and former Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Raghubir Mahaseth, member of the National Assembly Suman Raj Pyakurel and member of the Provincial Assembly Jwala Kumari Sah, among others, also called on the cadres to not fall for the confusion created by the Prachanda-Madhav group and work towards creating a conducive environment for the elections.
The gathering was chaired by central member Ganga Prasad Yadav.
