Kathmandu, Oct 1: Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has resigned from his post on Tuesday. He tendered his resignation to Deputy Speaker Dr. Shiva Maya Tumbahamphe.
"I tender my resignation on moral grounds, to be effective from today until the investigation process is concluded, so as to facilitate in the factual, free and fair investigation into the allegations leveled on me raising serious questions over my character in various media since Monday," the Speaker stated in his resignation letter.
Earlier, a Secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has advised Speaker of the House of Representatives, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, to resign from the post, citing that a question was raised in regard with his morality. Speaker Mahara has been accused of sexually harassing a woman.
