Kathmandu, Feb. 2: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has stated that festivals like Sonam Lhosar enhance mutual harmony, tolerance and brotherhood among Nepalis and strengthen national unity.
Greeting the Tamang community on the occasion of the festival, President Bhadari said that such celebrations helped preserve our identity and culture.
Sonam Lhosar marks the beginning of the new year for the Tamang community. Celebrated every year on the first day of the bright fortnight of the solar month of Magh, Tamangs mark Sonam Lhosar by worshipping their ancestors, the nature, remembering Lord Buddha and celebrating with their families.
Also issuing a message on the occasion, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun acknowledged the distinct and rich identity of the Tamang community and urged everyone to follow the government’s health protocol for the prevention and control of COVID-19 while observing the festival.
