By Chadani Hamal, Kathmandu, July 19: Along with the arrival of monsoon low-pressure line in Nepal, incessant rainfall is being observed across the nation.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division said that the Terai region was having a heavy rainfall.
“Torrential rainfall is occurring in the Terai region of State 5, Bagmati State and State 2 while hilly areas including Kathmandu is having mild rainfall,” informed meteorologist Barun Poudel.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology had informed four days earlier that incessant rainfall would hit the country for few days. Based on the information, the chances of heavy rainfall is indicated in few areas for four days.
The concerned stakeholders of the risk areas were also appealed to opt for preparedness against rain-induced disasters.
The Flood Forecasting Division has put the Kankai, Koshi, Bagmati, Narayani, Tinau, Babai, West Rapti and other rivers flowing through States 1, 2, 5, Bagmati and Gandaki State in flood-risk zone for four days from July 20 to 24.
In the last 24 hours, the rainfall occurred in all 172 rainfall measuring stations across the nation. The highest, 117 mm rainfall, was recorded in Banganga Station of Kapilvastu.
2 killed in 24 hours
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, two people were swept away by flooded streams in the last 24 hours and various areas have been inundated due to continuous rainfall.
Similarly, 18 incidents of fire, landslides, flooding and wild elephant attacks and other rain-induced disasters were recorded in the last 24 hours.
Incidents of obstruction of roads caused by rain-induced disasters were recorded in various places, thereby causing loss worth Rs. 1.7 million, said Anil Pokharel, Head of the Authority.
