Rain, snowfall likely today

Kathmandu, Feb. 4: Kathmandu and various parts of the country started receiving rainfall from Thursday evening due to the influence of the western low-pressure system.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), the current system will remain active until Saturday.

Raju Pradhananga, a senior meteorologist at DHM, said that weather will experience a normal to a complete change across the country on Friday.
He said that light to moderate rain with thunder, lightning and hail in most parts of the country was likely on Friday.

There is also a possibility of heavy rain in one or two places in Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces. Light to moderate snowfall is expected in many parts of the high mountainous and hilly terrain of the country, he said.
There will be partial to moderate cloud cover in Province 1, Madhes Province, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces of the country and there will be partial cloud cover in other provinces on Saturday. There is a possibility of light rain in a few places in Province 1, Madhes, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces and in one or two places in hilly areas of other provinces.

Light snowfall is also expected in a few places in the high hills and mountains of the eastern and central parts of the country, Pradhananga said.
Sudurpaschim province received normal rains on Thursday. According to DHM, Dipayal received 12.8 mm rainfall and Dadeldhura 13.6 mm rainfall today.

The minimum temperature in Kathmandu was recorded at 4.0 degrees Celsius while Lumle recorded minus 4.3 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
The weather will remain clear from Saturday, Pradhananga informed.
