Kathmandu, July 15: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Tuesday called on everyone to put the nation first.
Launching the mobile application (app) of the ‘Nepali Comprehensive Dictionary’ at a function organised at his official residence in Baluwatar, the Prime Minister recalled the time when certain factors had tried to divide Nepalis on the basis of geography, caste and other factors. “But every one of us understood well that we are all citizens of the same nation and we are all responsible and dutiful towards Nepal.”
However, in putting the country first, he cautioned against ignoring social justice and international accountability. “Patriotism should not triumph justice, fairness and equality,” he stressed.
Nepal Academy (NA) has developed the mobile application (app). The Prime Minister expressed his happiness and congratulated the Academy for successfully developing the app. He also said that such steps would contribute to the modernisation and digitisation of the nation.
“Modernisation and the availability of modern technology will help in the nation’s development,” he said, adding that the ultimate objective of development was to make the people happy and their lives easier and more comfortable.
He also highlighted the role of NA in creating a just, fair and humane society. “Everyone in the society should be able to live a dignified life free of fear,” PM Oli said, adding, “Everyone should be able to fulfil their basic needs, they should be able to experience their rights, there should be equality and security.”
But, in order to have such a society, the people should be guided by awareness, he said. “That is where experts, academicians and the Academy come in,” he said.
He reiterated that poets, writers and specifically the Nepal Academy, had a huge role to play in unifying the people and defining a just, all-inclusive framework for creating a humane, equitable society that would ultimately lead to the creation of a prosperous Nepal.
In the programme, NA Chancellor Ganga Prasad Upreti submitted the Academy’s progress report of the current fiscal year to PM Oli.
