Kathmandu, Mar. 6: A proposal of urgent public importance in regard with the sensitiveness of coronavirus (Covid-19) has been presented in the House of Representatives.
Nepali Congress lawmaker Gagan Thapa presented the proposal to inform the House of measures taken so far to prevent the infection risk and preparedness.
The proposal has been backed by lawmakers Sanjay Kumar Gautam, Dibyamani Rajbhandari, Rajendra Kumar KC and Dr Narayan Khadka.
The proposal states that Nepal remained in the 15th position in terms of the virus risk infection, but the prevention measures were not adequate and the government forming a high-level coordination committee towards that end deserved admiration.
The proposal seeks the flow of right information about the virus among the masses, and for the proper management of Nepalis outside the country and those tourists entering the country.
"This is not the responsibility of any particular ministry or a body or the government alone, rather every individual, community, governments at all levels, non government or oganisations and development partners should stand together to face the probable challenges. In this hour of worldwide public health emergency, all levels and bodies should unite together to take it as a common campaign and national resolution against possible risk.''
Presenting the proposal, lawmaker Thapa said if the outbreak of virus occurred amidst the prevention preparations, measures to be taken for emergency purpose should be discussed and determined in advance. ''It is the responsibility of all to contribute to the prevention of the coronavirus infection."
As he said, an integrated action plan is necessary for this and works responsibilities should be clearly defined. A special policy from the parliament is required to deal with the issue.
''Some foreign nationals are entering the country without monitoring and the government is not concerned where they are,'' he said, urging the government to be serious towards that end. Taking part in the discussions about the proposal, lawmakers urged the government to be prepared for the mitigation of infection risk, bearing in mind its sensitivity.
