Kathmandu, June 25: All political parties should demonstrate national unity on the issues of national interest, President Bidya Devi Bhandari said on Wednesday.
President Bhandari also expressed her gratitude to the government and top leaders of different political parties for showing unprecedented national unity for territorial integrity and sovereignty.
President Bhandari said so while holding a discussion with top leaders of different political parties on the contemporary issues at Sheetal Niwas on Wednesday evening.
She also appreciated the efforts put forth by Nepal government, political leaders, federal and local government in the battle against COVID-19.
Sharing her happiness, President Bhandari said, “For long, Limpiyadhura, Lipulek and Kalapani region remained excluded from the country’s map. In the meantime, the government and political parties showed an unprecedented national unity while updating the new political map, through constitutional amendment.”
President’s personal secretary, Bhesh Raj Adhikari, said President Bhandari further appreciated the unity showed by political parties for endorsing the constitutional amendment bill to pave the way for altering Nepal’s map in the national emblem with the country’s new political and administrative map that incorporates Kalapani, Lipulek and Limpiyadhura.
She also expressed her confidence that the political parties would get united to revive the national economy which has been adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic and also
work together to conserve the Chure range that is going through severe degradation.
During the meeting, Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Speaker of House of Representatives Agni Prasad Sapkota, Chairman of National
Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timalsina, leader of main opposition party Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba, former prime ministers Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal, Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai, former chair of Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi, former deputy prime minister Upendra Yadav and top leaders of different political parties were present.
According to the office of President, it is a collective and regular meeting. It has been three months since President Bhandari held a meeting with leaders of different political parties due to COVID-19 lockdown.
