Parsa, Nov 7: President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday stressed the need for spreading the message of beautiful landscapes of plain, mountainous and hilly areas of Nepal to the world through films.
The President recognised the film fraternity as contributing to the development of country's cultural and language, and pointed out its development.
She was inaugurating the 'Nepali Film Golden Festival, 2076' organised in Birgunj on the occasion of 54th anniversary of Nepali Film Screening.
"Organised in the state rich in natural beauty and sitting in the lap of nature, this programme has added to the development of the film fraternity. There is a need for all sectors to assist in the development of film sector as it has increased country's pride," she said.
President Bhandari stressed the need for film sector to help eradicate social evils like witchcraft, child marriage and dowry through movies.
On the occasion, President Bhandari honoured photographer Baikuntha Maskey, film editor Tirtha Raj Shrestha and Pradip Kediya.
Likewise, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota viewed that film industry should not be taken only as a means of entertainment, but it should help sentimental connection between mountain, hill and Tarai through creation. He also underscored the need for also private sector to help in the development of film industry.
Similarly, Chief Minister of State 2 Lal Babu Raut pointed out the need for film producers to focus on stories required by the society.
The event was also attended by President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Bhawani Rana, President of Nepal Film Producer's Association, Akash Adhikari, Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City Bijaya Sarawagi and President of Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industries Gopal Kediya among others. More than six movies will be screened at the three days festival.
