Birgunj, Sept 29: President Bidya Devi Bhandari said on Sunday that Gadhimai had a significant contribution to the promotion of tourism and economy of the country.
Inaugurating via telephone the Shobhayatra function of the five-year fair of Gadhimai in Bara district, President Bhandari expressed the hope that the Gadhimai fair would help further develop the local culture of the region. She also stressed on the need to develop Gadhimai region into an international cultural tourist centre. Expressing confidence that the goal of the federal government to develop Gadhimai municipality as a model city of the country would be realized, the President expressed her solidarity with the 'Beti Bacho, Beti Padhau' programme of the provincial government.
The fair is held in every five years. High Court Judge Dilli Raj Acharya, Member of Parliament Ramesh Prasad Yadav, Chair of Gadhimai Trust Ram Chandra Shah, Chief Administrative Officer of Gadhimai municipality Saligram Dhakal and others also shed light on the history and glory of Gadhimai.
Following the inauguration, a kalash yatra was held from the Gadhimai temple.
