Janakpurdham, Feb. 17: The old engines of the train, which are supposed to be preserved in the museum, have fallen into disrepair in Janakpurdham.
Even though the Nepal Railway Company has upgraded and brought new trains into operation, the valuable locomotives of the old trains have fallen into disrepair due to lack of protection and conservation.
The engines named Brahma, Vishnu, Ramsita, Gorakhnath, Pashupatinath, Mahavir and Sita are lying at the open station of the Janakpurdham-Jayanagar railway track section in Khajuri of Janakandani Rural Municipality of Dhanusha due to lack of protection.
The Nepali people understood the importance of this engine after the owner of a British railway company who came to Janakpur three decades ago demanded for this engine. After the government refused to give the engines to him at the request of the local people, the then government decided to build the museum itself. Locals said that a museum is needed to preserve the old engines.
Niranjan Jha, general manager of Nepal Railway Company, said that the old locomotives could become a source of income in the future if they could be preserved. He also informed that homework is being done for the construction of a museum. “Historical and valuable assets of Nepal should be protected, we have appointed two permanent employees to protect them,” Jha said.
He said that now is the time to plan for conservation rather than what happened in the past.
The Nepal Railway Company has been operating an empty train on 32 km Jayanagar-Kurtha route every day since February 1 (Sunday).
GM Jha informed that preparations are also being made for the inauguration by the Prime Ministers of both countries.
Aayodhi Das, chief administrative officer of Janaknandini Rural Municipality, said that the construction of the museum is a matter of pride for the municipality as
it is safe to keep these locomotives in a museum.
