Kavre, Nov. 16: Construction company undertaking the responsibility for building the Area Police Office in Devitar of Mahabharat village in Kavrepalanchok district has not completed the construction work in time.
Although the ‘A’ class structure of the Area Police Office was proposed to be established in 2019 in the remote area of the district, the office is compelled to deliver its service from a two-room rented house built after 2015 earthquake.
Giri Raj Bhandari, in-charge of the Area Police Office, Devitar, complained that the police officials had to discharge services from a narrow space as the building was not constructed in time.
According to him, they have been paying Rs. 132,000 as rent annually.
Kirateshwor R&C JV of Gokarneshwor Municipality-6, Kathmandu had won the contract for the construction of Area Police Office Banepa and Devitar buildings to be constructed with the investment of Bagmati Province government.
Although the construction of the Area Police Office in Banepa was completed six months ago, Devitar has been left unattended. An agreement was reached for the construction of two buildings at a cost of Rs. 58.47 million.
Hari Khatiwada, information officer at the District Police Office, Kavre and Deputy Superintendent of Police, said that the construction of the building, which was supposed to be completed in mid-January, 2021, could not be finished despite repeated time extensions.
According to him, the agreement was reached on September 30, 2019. Although it was supposed to be completed in one year, the deadline was extended for three times on different dates.
The last extended deadline terminated on September 7, 2021. Despite the end of the third date extension, the company has not yet resumed works.
It was learnt that although the company got the contract, they had transferred the contract’s work to another local company of the district.
Police said that they have not been able to engage all their staff in office duty due to insufficient rooms.
