Kathmandu, Feb. 17: Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ Tuesday said that the police administration had reached very close to the suspect/s allegedly involved in the murder of 17-year-old Bhagrathi Bhatta of Baitadi subsequent to her rape.
The Home Minister promised to bring the perpetrators of the incident to justice at the earliest possible.
In a meeting with a delegation led by the Supreme Court Bar Association and Women’s Committee at the Ministry of Home Affairs today, Minister Thapa said that the government was serious about the incident and the whole
police administration had been engaged in taking the case to a logical conclusion.
Stating that the incident of Bhatta was not as complicated as that of Nirmala Pant’s in Kanchanpur, who met a similar fate some two years ago, Home Minister Thapa informed that the investigation was about to conclude as the investigating team had reached up to the source of the incident, but was waiting to receive a concrete evidence.
Reiterating that the government was serious about stopping violence against women, Home Minister Thapa clarified that a separate women’s cell had been set up under the Nepal Police for the same purpose.
He also said that the police had been instructed to prevent incidents of violence and rape and to take legal action against such incidents. On the occasion, women legal practitioners handed over a memorandum to Minister Thapa demanding effective investigation into the incident and action against the culprits.
