Kathmandu, Feb.1: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has extended his best wishes to Nepal Television (NTV) and urged it to update its technological capacity and programme production to keep abreast with the time.
Greeting the pioneer broadcaster on the occasion of its 37th anniversary on Monday, PM Deuba acknowledged the special place NTV occupied in the history of Nepali broadcasting and broadcast journalism and praised it for representing all the groups, communities and regions of the nation in its coverage.
He also noted how, over the years, the station has contributed to Nepal’s development and helped establish and institutionalise political changes. He also lauded its role as a responsible broadcaster working to strengthen nationality and national unity through information dissemination.
The Prime Minister said that NTV has always supported the promotion of Nepal’s art, culture and social fabric.
NTV, the country’s oldest television station, celebrated its 37th anniversary on Monday. Started as a single channel in 1985, NTV has since grown into a media organisation operating five High Definition (HD) television channels today.
Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, in his message, recognised this growth and commended NTV for advocating social justice through its content and serving as a bridge between the government and the citizens. He also asked the broadcaster to foster a sense of unity in diversity in the country and prioritise the coverage of all sectors and groups equally.
Secretary at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology Dr. Baikuntha Aryal stressed the need for NTV to establish a competitive presence in the market and advised it to produce and broadcast programmes in line with the viewers’ interests
