Kathmandu, June 3: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that every criminal involved in heinous crimes like untouchability and racial discrimination would be punished under the ambit of law.
Extending best wishes on the occasion of the National Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination and Untouchability being marked on Wednesday, PM Oli said, "It is vital to protect the rights of victims of discrimination. Thus, I call every person, family, society and concerned authorities to be sensitive in eliminating all forms of racial discrimination."
PM Oli said that this inhuman practice which was disgraceful to human civilisation had ended legally. "However, this cruel practice is yet to be eradicated from our society. I urge everyone to actively participate from where they are to end untouchability and racial discrimination in all forms."
He said that it was high time to run a meaningful campaign on both national and societal levels against this inhuman practice that has been rooted in our society.
"The human race never wished for untouchability, discrimination, torture be it caste-based, colour-based, gender-based or racial," said the PM.
"Social justice, equality, fearless and safe environment to live a respectful life is an everlasting aspect of human behaviour," he added. "The world has observed various ideologies, protests and efforts to establish a civilised society based on this aspect." Despite all the efforts, the world had not been able to abolish inequality, discrimination, fear and disrespect from the society, he added.
The PM said that the ideologies of 19th century and movements in 20th century were successful in freeing nations worldwide from colonial system and eliminating all forms of discrimination. "This gave a new definition to 'independence' and brought a huge change all across the globe," he added.
Stating that the Constitution of Nepal had eliminated all kinds of discrimination, injustice, atrocity, exploitation and suppression, PM Oli said, "Social justice and equality, which is also one of the greatest aspects of a democratic republic nation, have been ensured by the constitution."
The PM said that the current government had embraced 'Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepalis' as its motto and the government had been marching forward to achieve it.
"The government has aimed to attain prosperity by eliminating all forms of discrimination and ensuring social justice and equality," said PM Oli.
