Kathmandu, Aug. 18: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Nepal Communist Party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba met on Monday and discussed the current political developments and problems that the country was facing.
The meeting was held immediately after the Secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) concluded. During the meeting held at Baluwatar, Prime Minister Oli discussed about appointments in
the constitutional bodies with opposition leader, and Deuba drew attention to three issues, said the NC by issuing a statement.
President Deuba reached the PM’s official residence in Baluwatar along with NC leader Ramesh Lekhak.
The meeting between the Prime Minister Oli and senior leaders was held when constitutional appointments are delayed. Altogether 40 constitutional positions in 13 constitutional bodies remain to be filled up.
In the meeting, chief of the main opposition party Deuba drew the attention of Prime Minister Oli about not shifting the people of Lidi in Sindhupalchowk even when they were crying for safe settlements with the government since long. Dozens were killed and many went missing in a massive landslide in Lidi recently.
“Does the government not take responsibility for this kind of mistake it committed?” Deuba asked, demanding effective and planned way to tackle the problems caused by the floods and landslides.
The NC informed that Deuba had asked PM Oli to focus on preventing and controlling the COVID-19 outbreak in the country and drew attention to provide proper relief to the victims of floods and landslides that recently took place in various regions of the country with new strategies.
Deuba also drew attention of Prime Minister Oli to pay heed to the internal dispute in Tribhuwan University and resolve the problem in capacity of its Chancellor.
He complained that the university was not running as per the norms and culture but with political prejudice.
He said the university authority was filing false cases against the professors associated with the Democratic Professors Association, not listening to their genuine demands and keeping students in custody.
He urged such problems should have been resolved through talks at the earliest.
