PM honours CIPs, pledges good governance to private sector

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Tuesday said that the administration would not be an obstacle to the promotion of trade and commerce.

“We, the government, are working to maintain good governance for economic development of the country. So, integrated efforts from all, including general people, are a must to achieve the goal of prosperity by ensuring good governance in all sectors,” Prime Minister Oli said while conferring honour on the Commercially Important Persons (CIP) here today.

He assured the private sector that the government was ready to resolve their problems but urged them to abide by the policies and laws.

“The government is expecting an increase in investment and practice of good entrepreneurship from the private sector; I request the businessmen to work honestly and run their business in a transparent manner,” he said.

He urged the private sector to do business with confidence as the government was always with them to secure their investment.

He said that the government was making efforts to introduce policies for good governance and create an investment-friendly environment in the country.

“We are not authoritarians. We do not want to stick in power by causing damage to the private sector. The government will not resort to corrupt practices. The government listens to the voices of all people and is ready to address their problems,” he said.

Stating that sufficient bases were prepared for the country’s economic development as Nepal was rich in natural diversity, he said, “We can produce all kinds of agricultural crops in different altitudes.”

Agriculture and industrial sectors are major sectors in terms of production to substitute import and increase export, he said.

He said that the private sector should invest in the productive sector which contributes to job creation and boosts productivity.

Prime Minister Oli also said that the government would begin honouring other businessmen who had contributed to the national economy by means of trade and businesses.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli honoured 25 businesspersons with the title of “Commercially Important Person (CIP) in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the country's economy.

Altogether 25 personalities, associations and organisations under 13 categories were honoured for their contribution to the national economy through export, foreign exchange earnings, investment and remittance earning.

Winners of the CIPs can enjoy a number of government facilities such as priority rights to meet high-level government officials, SAARC Sticker Visa, VIP lounge at Tribhuvan International Airport and special invitation in important events for the next two years.

Under the largest exporters/industrialists based on the goods exported to third countries, Ram Chandra Sanghai, chairman of Triveni Spinning Mill Pvt. Ltd, Dorje  Galsen Lama, managing director of the Shangrila Carpet and Handicraft Industries, Rahul Man Shakya, managing director of Kathmandu Star Fashion Pvt. Ltd, Surya Kumar Gurung, chairman of board of director, Everest Pashmina Knitting and Weaving Industry and Everest Fashion were honoured.

Under the exporters/ industrialists based on their export to India, Harkirat Singh Bedi, business head of Dabur Nepal Private Limited, Dibya Raj Sapkota, general manager of Aarti Strips Private Limited, and Yukti Golchha of Hulas Wire Industries Limited were presented the honour. 

Under the top exporters to China, Pemba Dorje Sherpa of New Handicraft Export, Bishow Raj Basnet of Ganesh Himal Import and Export Pvt. Ltd and Machhindra Pandey of New Pyagoda Enterprises were honoured with CIP.

 Likewise, Gopi Prasad Kandel, proprietor of Peoples Craft Export was honoured for earning more foreign currentcy from the export of original goods.

Sujan Kumar Shrestha of Manaram Himalyan Handicrafts Pvt. Ltd under the export of agro products category, Nirvan Kumar Chaundary of CG Biotech Pvt.Ltd were honoured under herbal products export.

Under the largest exporter of software products category, Dipesh Pradhan, manager director of LIS Nepal Pvt. Ltd, received CIP.

Hongshi Shivam Cement was awarded under the largest investment category.

Pawan Kumar Golyan of Reliance Spinning Mill received the title of CIP for creating more jobs in the country.

Chandra Prasad Dhakal, chairman of IME Limited was honoured for receiving more foreign currency through the remittance business.

Under the tourism sector, Suresh Lal Shrestha, executive director of Taragaun Regency Hotels Limited honoured, got the honour.
