Kathmandu, Aug. 7: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has extended gratitude to Bhutan for helping Nepal's fight against the pandemic by providing anti-coronavirus vaccines.
"Nepal welcomes the friendly gesture from Bhutan in aiding Nepal's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Many thanks to His Majesty King and Prime Minister of Bhutan for the cooperative arrangement in the supply of 230,000 doses of Covishield vaccine," tweeted Prime Minister Deuba on Friday.
The Prime Minister also expressed his commitment that Nepal would reciprocate the friendly gesture in the days to come. Meanwhile, issuing a press statement on Friday, Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari, assistant spokesperson at the Health Ministry, informed that Bhutan government had donated 230,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines to Nepal.
The vaccines arrived in Kathmandu on Friday via Druk Airlines, said the ministry.
Dr. Adhikari also extended gratitude to Bhutan for providing vaccines at a time when the nation is fighting the pandemic.
The MoHP has already said that second jab of AstraZeneca could be administered to those who have received the first dose of Covishield, anti-coronavirus vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and produced by Serum Institute of India.
A total of 1,828,484 people have been inoculated with Covishield until now and of them, only 460,308 have received the second dose.
