Kathmandu, Dec 16 (RSS):
House of Representatives' Education and Health Committee has started clause-wise discussions on the Bill Designed to Make Provisions for Sports Development, 2075 BS.
The Bill has already been passed by the Legislation Committee of the National Assembly, the upper house of the parliament.
Education and Health Committee member Jeevan Ram Shrestha said that the preamble of the bill has been finalized in course of the discussion at the committee meeting today. According to him, the clause 'to carry out study and research of the sports sector as well' has been inserted in the preamble.
He said discussions were also held in the meeting regarding the definition of 'international' player, as it was mentioned in the bill that only an athlete winning medal in the international competition can be called an 'international' player.
According to Shrestha, many of the committee members participating in the clause-wise discussion on the bill were of the view that all athletes participating in an international sports competition should be considered as international level player.
He said the meeting concluded agreeing to hold further discussions on the topic in the next meeting.
Minister for Youth and Sports Jagat Bahadur Bishwokarma argued in the meeting that only the athletes winning medal in international competition should be called an international player.
Shrestha, who is also the Nepal Olympic Committee president, has registered an amendment proposal in favour of calling all the players participating in the international competitions as international athlete. He said the next meeting of the committee has been fixed for December 20.
