Kathmandu, Jan. 14: The government will construct a Baje-Bajai Park (Grandpa-Grandma Park) for the elderly people who are forced to lead frustrating life in isolation during old age.
Assuming his office as Minister for Urban Development Monday, Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota approved the file of policy level decision for the establishment of the park in the capital.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Baskota said that the development of the park would contribute to enhancing urban beauty and offer modern civilisation and cultural identity to the capital city.
He said such park would be established in every residential area to free senior citizens from the situation of feeling isolation.
The government has a policy of encouraging private sector and local government in constructing such parks, he added.
According to Minister Baskota facility of food, bathing, entertainment, using skills and knowledge of senior citizens, health facilities as well as day care facilities would be available in the park.
For the construction of the park, around eight ropanies of public land located in the bank of Dhobikhola towards north of Bhatkekopul has been proposed.
Minister Baskota said that policy decision had also been taken for the construction of children parks and parks for youths in different parts of the city.
“The children parks and youth parks will also comprise open theatre facility where local residents can gather in the morning and evening to involve in cultural activities,” he added.
Similarly, Minister Baskota also approved the policy decision to construct an integrated residence in all seven States.
Baskota said that the integrated residents with basic facilities would be built at Rampur of Okhaldhunga district, Gangabhawanipur of Rautahat, Kapilkot of Sindhuli, Balewa of Baglung, Madichour of Rolpa, Mugu, Bajhang and Bajura districts. The detailed project report of the integrated residences has already been prepared.
Minister for Urban Development, Minister Baskota reached the ministry to assume his office from Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on foot.
In the Ministry of Urban Development, Baskota was welcomed by State Minister Rambir Manandhar, Secretary Madhusudhan Adhikari and officials of the ministry.
